iFile

If you’ve ever dreamt of being able to delve into the iPhone’s file system straight from the phone while taking advantage of countless features and possibilities, you’ll be thrilled to know that iFile brings this type of functionality and more. iFile is essentially a file browser for your iPhone that allows you to navigate your phone’s file system quickly and easily. With this iPod Touch and iPhone app, you can open and view many different file types, and even use your phone as a portable flash drive with this app’s functionality. Remember – you need to jailbreak your iDevice in order to have access to this application from Cydia.

Upon first launch of iFile from the iOS interface, you are greeted with the root directory in your phone that contains all of the files necessary for your phone software to operate. You can edit them, move them, and even create new ones straight from the screen of your iDevice. If you’ve got a folder that you work in frequently, you can add it your “bookmarks” in iFile to easily jump to it.

You can instantly start browsing or explore the tabs that line the bottom of the interface for other features. The first tab along the bottom if the Settings tab which is directly accessible from within rather than the Settings app. This obviously makes it extremely easy to customize how iFile works directly. The next tab is a web server that you can use straight from your phone for the downloading and uploading of various files. This feature is specifically nice for Wi-Fi sharing between your computer and iDevice, for example.

The other three tabs that line the bottom of the iFile interface are the Bookmarks, Home [for reverting back to the root directory's base], and the Tabbed Browsing button for easily navigating between various locations in your iPhone’s directory.

Whether you want to dig into your files by editing code or you just want to view file types that weren’t already supported by iOS, iFile can handle these tasks very well.

iFile is essentially the go-to application for users who want more control and access to their phone’s inner workings without the hassle of using a computer or wires to do so. iFile was developed by Carsten Heinelt and is priced at $4 in the Cydia app store.
